Long, long ago...
||Thank Satty for all the work she put into making this plot more realistic and in-depth! (You guys will see the ‘in-depthness’ later.)||
Once upon a time in a world far different from our own, magic and monsters ruled. People were not sure what these magnificent creatures were, though they had coincided with them for thousands of years. Those who immersed themselves within various scrolls and books decided to call these ‘monsters’ Majuu (magical beasts). Some see these Majuu as companions, workers, friends. Others see them as mere tools that could be used for war.
The kingdom of Ki was humble. It had its lords and ladies, but the king had recently died. The castle was vacant, and the town wasn't doing much better. Poverty had stricken the land; the common people here were nothing more than peasants such as petty traders and farmers. The inhabitants here befriended the Majuu, and the bonds between the creatures and humans remained strong. They helped farmers toil the land, traders sell their goods, and mothers watch after their children.
The neighboring kingdom of Tai was the opposite. Its main city of the land’s namesake was filled with pompous nobles whose primary concern was for money. You see, this particular place evolved from the brightest of the bright from the funds of the richest. Even the poorest in their kingdom wore cotton, a material vastly coveted for how warm and comfortable it was. People here only wanted the best, and that came with the Majuu they began to train for non-necessary uses. Once the true potential of these monsters was realized, many were used as weapons.
Both kingdoms lived with each other peacefully until one day… A mysterious man stumbled upon the outskirts of Ki and promptly fainted within its boundaries. Other lone travelers, having come upon the man long after he had passed out, decided to be good Samaritans. Unfortunately, they somehow caught the same sickness and soon perished.
A plague, a plague like no other descended upon the lands just north of Kanto where these two kingdoms once coincided. A vast number of people perished, a few weaker Majuu dying as well. Some could only explain the symptoms as blemishes on your skin which would bubble into blisters. The blisters would burst in a few days, leaving angry marks of newly-torched skin. The rest would be too gruesome to describe, but I can assure you it was a slow and painful death when your time came.
The people of Tai, having learned of this plague, decided to raid the nearby city of the kinder kingdom’s namesake and origin. After successfully destroying everything the people of Ki held dear, the Tai returned to their kingdom triumphant in one sense. However, they didn’t expect their own soldiers to harbor the disease and spread it to their own people. Tai blames the people of Ki for destroying the world that ‘everyone’ held ‘dear’. Now these lands are both infected, and with the virus spreading at such a rapid pace, there is much to be done.
As of now, both Ki and Tai have discovered a mysterious patch of land in the forest dividing the two kingdoms. Both sides have sent in scouts to investigate, only to have them stopped by a mysterious invisible barrier… Research has given Ki and Tai legends of mysterious people called Hadou (Aura) Guardians with magical abilities far surpassing the knowledge of the time.
