ALL RIGHT. So, I got to thinking, and it hit me:
Why are we calling them Pokémon, if it's taken from "pocket monsters"? Pokeballs didn't exist, so they couldn't have been called Pokémon. So, why not something that fits the plot: Kaibutsu. (Japanese word for "monster"..obviously.)
It can be used the same way Pokémon is used i.e., it's both singular and plural.
So..Kaibutsu.
ANOTHER THING: Currency. Pokeyen, of course, didn't exists. I'm struggling so much with my conscious to not throw "gil" into the fray, so here's my only idea that doesn't involve plagiarism:
Gold. Simple and well known. And like, if the kingdoms had their own currency, then it could have their emblem engraved in it. So, Ki gold would be good in Ki, but not in Tai, or...something. -likes it better when there's only one form of currency for everyone like the EU-
So my ideas are open to discussion.
DON'T EAT ME. D:

Gold was widely used in that time, but I think only the Tai residents would have that. Ki would use something not as expensive... Perhaps pewter or something of the sort. Like the name thing

As far as currency goes. How about calling one of them Gald. (Namco's RPG games use Gald instead of Gold. (Even though some translators screwed with that and put Gold.))
As for calling Pokemon something different. Oni (Demon) is a possibility. Or some nickname that is different for both kingdoms.

Mmmm, I think those are good ideas. I agree with Fee on the currency thing -- Ki are too lame for gold. XD Some lesser form (bronze? copper?) would work too. Just throwing ideas out there. ^^ But I'm open for anything on names. Shortness is loved though, because I'll be less likely to forget things then. XD; -selfish-

I like farthings.
But what would the exchange rate be? Hmm.

Depends on how much of a wealth gap there is between the kingdoms. How about a 3:2 ratio?
