The first day of the year - and it was lunchtime already? Contrary to most of the students, the sixteen year old who trudged out of his classroom, shoving his round glasses up his nose as he did so, thought that the day had gone far too quickly. School computers were fun - it was harder for his parents to track his usage of them, and while not as powerful as his own machine, they were sufficiently good enough to do most of the things Cato loved to do in his spare time.
Like hack into prominent websites.
Bulky figure flitting between the jostling students that filed into the cafeteria, the teenager absentmindedly lifted what appeared to be some sort of biscuit covered in a strange paste to his partially open mouth; ignoring the sidelong glances he received as other students tried to guess what it was, he took a large bite, nearly swallowing it whole. He had no idea what it was supposed to be, or how it was supposed to taste. That was another thing about him - it appeared that he had either no tastebuds, or faulty ones, as he would quite happily eat anything he could chew and force down.
The teenager waited near the walls of the bustling room, not really knowing anyone enough to sit with them. Most students, though they barely knew him, passed him off as a 'nerd', 'freak' or, most often, 'loser'. This did not bother Cato in the slightest, nor did the fact that this made him a prime target for the brutes of the school to take their rage out on - as he watched his peers settling at their tables with detached interest, his thin lips curled into a smile at the memory of the last bully who gave him a black eye. No one had quite figured out how the boy's computer had contracted a virus, causing it to shut down and lose all its files - including the essays he had been writing, due the next day. It was too convenient, the teachers said; he was given detention, but never thought to blame the quiet, cold kid who watched the scene with more than a glint of amusement in his dark eyes.
